Carol Service 10th December 2009
St Botoloph's Aldgate once again welcomed us for the Annual Carol Service where the Bowyers were guests of the Worshipful Company of Tobacco Pipe Makers and Tobacco Blenders on the 10th December 2010. The new Rector the Reverend Laura Burgess, who had recently assumed the living, presided.
The company arrived as the Sennocke Consort choir from Sevenoaks School were rehearsing. There was a hub-hub of old friends meeting, conversing and wishing each other season's greetings.
When all were seated and at 6.30 the procession led by the Company Beadle followed by the Master Bowyer and his Clerk followed by the Officers of the Tobacco Pipemakers and Tobacco Blenders Company and lastly the Rector processed up the aisle and took there respective places.
The first verse of Once in Royal David's City was sung as a solo by Chiara Alessandri. After the opening hymn the Rector said the traditional bidding prayer for Christmas concluding with the Lord's Prayer. The service then followed with the traditional Lessons read by the Masters, the Senior Warden and the Immediate Past Master of the Tobacco Pipe Makers, and lastly Sophie Munden the Tobacco Pipe Makers' Scholar.
The Rector gave a short uplifting address and led prayers and gave the Blessing before recessing to the back of the Church. After the service members of both Companies mingled together and enjoyed a light meal of 'Bangers and Mash' and mincepies accompanied by a couple of glasses of wine.
