Visiting Our Chelsea Pensioner

Mercian Capt Luke Beetlestone, Bowyer Mark Elliott
and Chelsea Pensioner Jim Fisher.

Our affiliated Mercian Regiment has a Pensioner in the Royal Hospital, Chelsea, and the Regimental Adjutant, Capt Luke Beetlestone, arranged via Mark Elliott for a small party of Bowyers to join him in a visit there on Novermber 25th.

His name is Jim Fisher, he's 85 years old, and he has been in the Royal Hospital for four years now. He served in the South Staffordshire Regiment (a Mercian antecedent) from 1947 to 1952, seeing active service in Malaysia and Korea, including a spell with the Paras. After leaving the Army he had a good long career as an innovative engineer, spending many years working in the USA and Canada.

Jim is bright as a button, and 'party' was the right word; the Royal Hospital has an excellent bar, where Jim was clearly a popular patron, and after a short tour of the Hospital, three very happy hours flew by.
