Suited & Booted Charity Quiz Night

On 21 January at the Steam Wine Bar near Monument, our favourite small charity, Suited & Booted, held its third charity Quiz Night. Twelve City teams entered this time, including two teams each from the Turners and the Tax Advisers; the Bowyers entered a team too, again organised by the IPM, and we're delighted to report that for the third time running, the Bowyers came out with the winners' trophy! As the photo shows, the winning Bowyers' team comprised William Mills, Mark Eyre, Mark Benstead, Tony and Enid Kench, and Rupert Holmes.

It was a tougher evening than last time: Suited & Booted's quizmaster Mike Thomas had spent many hours coming up with unexpected questions across all the 10 categories. Somewhat to our own surprise, we knew what the Japanese liqueur Midori is made from, that the Beltfish is not poisonous, what cynophobia is, which British novelist won the 2017 Nobel Prize for Literature, and even the names of the actresses who played Sharon and Tracey. But scoring only 85 out of 110 there were plenty we didn't know, so no room for complacency!

The final photo is of Suited & Booted's Principal, Dr Maria Lenn, presenting the trophy. It was a fun evening, and a great fund-raiser and awareness-raiser for Suited & Booted, the charity that receives business clothing donated from people in the City (suits, shirts, ties and shoes) and kits out job-seekers for interviews, adding some interview coaching too; some 2,000 were successfully kitted out in 2019. Long may they thrive!
