Bowyers' History Since 1666 - Talk and Supper
On the 8th September 22 Bowyers and their guests gathered at the Market Porter in Borough Market to enjoy each other's company and listen to a fascinating talk from Past Master Tony Kench.
Tony has been researching the, so far unchronicled, history of the Bowyers from 1666 until the present day as part of writing his upcoming book ‘A New History of the Bowyers' Company'. During the talk he described how the Company survived the Great Fire of London, and he gave us an insight into where we met and dined through the centuries and some of the characters in the Company over this time. Tony also spoke about the sale of the estate left to us by James Wood, Isley Walton, towards the end of the 19th Century and the changes during the 20th Century that created the Company we know today. Everyone then turned their attention to an excellent supper of Hot Smoked Salmon Scotch Egg, followed by Steak, Ale & Mushroom Pie, then Apple & Blackberry Crumble with Custard.
Many thanks to Tony for an excellent evening.
