Mercian Regiment Reformation Day
The Master, Nigel Heilpern, Renter Warden, Mark Elliott, and Court Assistant Maj Gen Andrew Sharpe, CBE, had the great privilege of being invited by Lt Col Dean Canham, Commanding Officer, 1 MERCIAN, to attend the Reformation Day of the Mercian Regiment at Bulford Garrison on 1st September 2022. After coffee in the Officers' Mess, the day commenced with Messrs Heilpern, Elliott and Sharpe taking front-row seats for a full Colours' Parade and March-Past to the Regiment’s Quick and Slow Marches in the presence of the Colonel-of-the-Regiment, Lt-General Ian Cave, CB, and with a significant number of members of the Regimental Family in attendance. It was a fabulous display of pin-point martial ceremony and to exceptional music provided by the Band of the Scots Guards. The morning ended with a buffet lunch provided in the Officers' Mess and the chance to speak with a number of those who had taken part in the Parade. The day wrapped-up with us attending in the evening a formal Dinner in the Warrant Officers' and Sergeants' Mess, presided over by RSM Marc Giles, CGC, the head of the Mess, for the WOs and Sergeants as well as the Officers of the Regiment and its Support Arms, and with Lt-General Ian Cave as the Principal Guest. As ever with our Regiment, it was a super day of pageantry and showing the close relationship between us Bowyers and our Regiment.
