Clive Arding was born on 30 December 1946 and educated at Kent College, Canterbury, Kent. After leaving college he qualified as a Chartered Surveyor in 1969, subsequently becoming a Fellow in 1979.

Clive spent his entire professional career with Richard Ellis (now known as CBRE), one of the world's largest firms of International Property Consultants. He was appointed an Associate Partner in 1970, shortly after qualification, and a full Equity Partner in 1976 at the age of 29. He served on the Firm's Management Committee over the period 1980 to 1986 holding the role of Finance Partner from 1980 to 1984.

Following the incorporation and sale of the Firm, Clive remained as a Senior Director of CB Richard Ellis and Chairman of its City Business Department; a multi-disciplined team handling clients' commercial property needs within the City of London, Holborn, on the South Bank and in Docklands. His principal expertise was in the area of office agency, rent review and development work within London advising owner-occupiers, investors and developers. He also acted as an expert witness and as an approved RICS Arbitrator on commercial rent reviews. He retired from practice in December 2009.

Clive Arding is a Past Chairman of the City Branch of The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors and served on a number of RICS Committees and on its International Governing Council. He is also a Liveryman of the Company of Chartered Surveyors and a Founder Member of both the British Council for Offices and the City Architecture Forum.

The Arding family has a long association with the Worshipful Company of Bowyers, stretching back to the early 1800's. Clive became the sixth Master of the Bowyers' Company to carry the family name. He presented the first Lady Bowyers Brooch to the Company in 2002 on becoming Master, and a Loving Cup in memory of those members of his family who had served as Master or Clerk in 2006.

Clive married Mary (nee Storey) in 1974: they have two children, James, also a Liveryman, who qualified as a Vet and is a partner in practice in Devizes and Kate, who has a BA in History and who worked for an American Investment Bank before taking time out to look after her three children.

Outside his professional career and now in retirement, Clive enjoys skiing, sailing, the arts and looking after his five grandchildren. He is a Trustee of the Central Foundation Schools of London and also a Governor of the Central Foundation Girls' School in Bow, East London with which the Company has a close association. In addition he is a Governor of Taunton School in Taunton, Somerset.

Clive is involved with a number of charities including in particular the Orpheus Sinfonia Foundation that supports our finest musicians of tomorrow and where he and his wife Mary are Chair Sponsors.
