Bowyers' Charitable Trust: St George's Dinner 2025
24 April 2025
This year we celebrated the Feast of St. George with our annual Banquet, this time, at the Farmers & Fletchers’ Hall. We were privileged to have a Guard of Honour to receive us on arrival provided by our friends from the Air 338 Squadron (West Ham) Air Cadets. They also gave us a fantastic demonstration of their Drill which was at an excellent standard.
Rather than having one key Speaker, we had the opportunity to hear from four, punctuated by each course, who gave a brief update on the work of some the great charities we support – our own Freeman Colonel (Retired) A Hadfield spoke on behalf of The Mercian Benevolent Trust, Sallie Barker MBE for British Blind Sport, Dr Maria Lenn MBE for Suited & Booted, and Barry Goswell for the Frylands Wood Scout Outdoor Centre.
The atmosphere was one of warm conviviality notwithstanding the formality of the occasion. The food was good, the wine flowed, and the Loving Cups charged with Madeira. The format worked well, and the occasion went smoothly thanks to the unobtrusive efficiency of our wonderful Clerk and Beadle.
