Bowyers’ Longbow Plate Day, The Royal Toxophilite Society

On the last Sunday in July the Master Bowyer, Sir David Wootton, attend the Bowyers’ Longbow Plate Day at the Royal Toxophilite Society. This event was initiated by Bowyer Master Anthony Wood in 1980, recognising that longbows were no longer so much used on Bowyers’ Prize Day (which is usually held at the start of July), and wishing to see longbow competition continue to thrive, which it has.

This is a marvellous competition amongst enthusiastic longbow archers from the Royal Tox.
The event takes place in Burnham’s delightful countryside setting and is a tangible way for the Company to show how it cares about the sport.  Prizes of plates and bowls (previously donated by Bowyer Past Masters Wood, Hardy, Ballenden, Seaton and Model) were presented by the Master.  The Master was also pleased to receive a recent Longbow (made for a future presentation) by Bowyer Liveryman Richard Head.
