Royal Navy Supper Evening
At the Bowyers' Supper Evening on 6 March at Bangers, the 35 present were treated to a brilliant tour-de-force presentation by Capt Paddy Allen RN on the capabilities of the modern Royal Navy, nicely related to its enduring strategic role of protecting the UK's global trade routes, noting that 95% of the world's trade in goods is still carried by sea.
Capt Allen then updated us on the fresh initiative he and the Master have been working on with the Commanding Officer of our affiliated frigate, HMS Northumberland, for a new annual award for the Ship's crew in the form of a trophy and cash grant to the mess deck of the Junior Rating(s) making the best contribution to the life of the Ship.
Designs have been prepared for the trophy and a plaque for the winning mess deck, and we have 'full steam ahead' for the first award to be made in 2018.
