Agincourt Dinner, 15 October 2020
On 15th October, a day before London began its Tier 2 lockdown, the Bowyers Company commemorated the anniversary of Agincourt. Whilst it was not possible to hold our traditional Agincourt Banquet in its full glory, the anniversary did not go unmarked.
In the grand but welcoming setting of the National Liberal Club and with the support of the Beadle, the Clerk and the Chaplain, 19 Bowyers gathered to meet and dine with one another.
In these days of COVID-19 we needed to ensure everyone remained safe which dictated, a little, the format of the dinner. We began with a champagne reception whilst seated at our individual tables of 6. Before dinner and in front of the assembled company, we were pleased to formally swear in and welcome Mr Derram Attfield as a new Freeman to the Company. We remained at our tables throughout and the evening was marked by traditional Bowyers' conviviality with lively and engaging conversation, a delicious three course dinner and good wine. After dinner there were toasts and a short speech from the Master. Finally, and earlier than usual, we had carriages 9:45pm.
It proved a thoroughly enjoyable evening and I am grateful that we were able to uphold our Agincourt tradition.
